Major duties may include but are not limited to:
Prepare lectures and handouts as needed, utilize audio visual equipment as part of this training. Responsible for preparing lesson plans, to include examinations, on training units and policies to keep officers familiar with VA regulations, Law Enforcement and Security Issues Train VA Medical Center staff in personal safety skills and verbal intervention skills in the prevention and management of disruptive behavior. Conduct stops and question on suspicious persons authoritatively and tactfully to determine the nature of their business and to provide appropriate direction or take corrective action if indicated. Ensure firearms are maintained within factory specifications, provides advanced cleaning and repair, inventories weapons and ammunition and maintains a service/maintenance file for each weapon. Performs other law enforcement and security related duties as assigned by the Training Captain, Deputy Chief and/or Chief of Police. LETC certified on the following:
Instructor Development Course (IDC), Firearms Instructor, Ground Defense Recovery/Defensive Tactics Instructor (GDR). Work Schedule:

Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
plan, coordinate and provide training; certified as the Firearms Instructor, intermediate weapons instructor, defensive tactics, and O.C. spray instructor; train in classroom setting and field environment; prepare lectures and handouts, utilize audio visual equipment; provide law and order, physical security, physical safety and protection of patients, visitors, employees and equipment, buildings and ground. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

Physical Requirements:
The incumbent is subject to all types of environmental factors (i.e., excessive heat, cold, rain, and snow). He/she is routinely exposed to toxic fumes, smoke and gas. The incumbent may also come in contact with biological/contaminated material. Due to the geographical location, in a high crime area, the Incumbent may encounter individuals armed and unarmed that have or have intentions to commit a criminal act (i.e., auto theft, felony assaults, narcotic transactions, etc.). The encounter could easily result to violence. The incumbent Is exposed to stressful situations when responding to a hostile environment. The incumbent could be required to work shifts lasting from 12 - 24 hours without relief in order to meet minimum staffing requirement, especially during an emergency situation or natural disaster. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
