In this position, you will serve as a Marine Inspector providing technical expertise and leadership in the enforcement of marine safety, vessel inspection, pollution prevention, vessel manning, regulations, treaties and international conventions.Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:
Conducting assessments of vessels plans, safety management systems and operating systems to determine compliance with regulations and applicable standards. Determining that vessels being inspected have the proper documents and certificates on board and in effect. Inspecting vessel hulls, including the hull envelope, internal structural members, protrusions, fittings, appendages, special tanks and special use structure. Inspecting vessel machinery, including propulsion equipment, control machinery, auxiliary machinery, special deck, vessel pumping equipment, damage and fire control machinery, electrical and power general systems. Ensuring the required inspection documentation is prepared and appropriate orders drafted specifying required changes, repairs or operational limitations for the vessel and its equipment. You qualify for the GS-11 grade level if you possess one of the following:
A. One year of specialized experience at the GS-09 grade level performing such duties as:
Performing quality assurance/regulatory compliance in a shipyard or in a fabrication environment. Inspecting and ensuring that technical vessel, including propulsion equipment, control machinery, etc. are in safe operating conditions. Performing work in the off-shore industry or in the commercial fishing industry. or B. Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or C. 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or D. LL.M, if related. or E. A combination of successfully completed post-bachelors school education and experience. This will be calculated using your resume and unofficial transcripts with the list of courses/course hours submitted with your application. You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level performing duties such as:
Inspecting and ensuring that technical vessel, including propulsion equipment, control machinery, etc. are in safe operating conditions. Preparing briefing papers, technical analyses and option evaluations for the Officer-in-Charge and Marine Inspection. Reviewing technical vessel design and construction plans to determine compliance with regulations. Resolving maritime vessel inspection controversies; identifying hazardous conditions and prescribed corrective actions. Evaluating the compliance of foreign passenger vessel safety management systems with the International Safety Management Code. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience):
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
