Remitly is seeking a commercial attorney with a strong background negotiating high stakes commercial contracts, building a scalable contracts platform that enables rapid business execution, and has experience in managing a global contracts portfolio for a fast-paced, growing company. We are in the process of rapidly expanding our global footprint and we are looking for a dynamic attorney to join in the growth and success of our fast-growing fintech business.
As Senior Corporate Counsel, you will work closely with and report directly to our General Counsel as a senior member of our growing global legal team. You will work closely and collaboratively with a high performing and supportive business group, drawing upon your strengths and those of the organization to help us build a world-class legal function for a fast-growing financial services company.
What will your experience on the team be like?
You will be a critical member of our growing legal team, interfacing with our business management internally and major financial organizations externally as Remitly seek to rapidly expand our global remittance network. In this role, you will be support our business leaders as lead counsel negotiating favorable agreements with payment processors and disbursement partners around the world. Your work will be critical to ensuring that our agreements meet a high bar that sets Remitly up for long-term success and scalability while identifying and mitigating legal risks.
You will also be the primary legal negotiator responsible for ensuring that business objectives are met and legal risks are appropriately identified and mitigated in other major contract areas, including those related to pricing and performance of key counterparties. You will lead efforts to structure, draft, and negotiate complex commercial agreements within our existing business as well as emerging business lines and marketing approaches. You will also resolve issues that arise in existing commercial relationships and handle performance management issues, pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries
In addition, you will lead our organization's contract oversight and management function, ensuring that we regularly revisit and revise key agreements on a prioritized basis to ensure that our terms remain competitive, partner performance is consistent with contractual agreements, and emerging issues are proactively managed as we continue to expand our international operations footprint. You will also assist on matters of corporate governance, ensuring that we scale our global footprint efficiently and in a manner compliant with local governance requirements, and US securities law.
In performing this role, you will be managing legal risks, using your strong analytical skills and keen eye for detail to support the delivery of Remitly's services to customers around the world.

Basic Qualifications:
Washington State qualified corporate lawyer with 8+ legal experience, ideally in a combination of a large international law firm, and in-house with a financial services and/or technology multinational
5+ years of legal experience as an in-house transactional legal counsel, preferably with some portion of that experience in technology and commercial transactions.
3+ years of legal experience in a top national or international law firm
Highly entrepreneurial and self-directed individual, resourceful, creative and capable of handling multiple projects at a time
Willingness to travel, as needed, globally
Knowledge of Microsoft Office and general comfort with learning new software skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong transactional background, with familiarity with IT/technology transactions a plus
Working knowledge of payments, financial services regulation, and the fintech industry
Worked in a company during a period of rapid growth and with a global presence
Legal management and team leader skills

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
