Software Development Manager
Description
The Amazon Shipping Platform team is seeking a talented, innovative, and motivated leader to join our Shipping Integration and Policy Development team. The Shipping Platform computes shipping transportation capabilities and shipping charges billions of items for Amazon's worldwide business and the results are surfaced to our buying customers in all marketplaces in all regions. Our services are architected to handle complex computation and process approx. 2 billion transactions per hour.
This Software Development Manager position is responsible for the supporting configuration services, self-service tools, and quality validation that enable these shipping capabilities for Amazon websites and customers. You will work closely with peer engineering teams and a vast client base to deliver solutions to our marketplaces globally. As the leader in this space, you will be responsible for leading a team of talented engineers supporting numerous clients across the Enterprise. The successful candidate will look at the big picture from business and technical perspectives and will have proven experience ensuring accuracy and stability in a 24x7 environment in support of growing scale and complexity.
The role has a significant impact on our systems, our business, and, most importantly, our customers. You will be involved in the earliest phases of new feature development providing big picture feedback. We are looking for a candidate who will challenge oneself and others to continually improve on our existing solutions.
The ideal candidate must be detail oriented, have excellent verbal and written communication skills, have strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently and maintain professionalism under pressure. You will accurately prioritize projects, make sound judgments, work to improve the customer experience, and get the right things done at the right time.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related engineering field
5-7
years of management experience (managing manager's and engineers)
5
years of relevant OO development and design experience
Experience with service-oriented architectures and web services
Experience with employee development, performance management and delivering results.
Preferred Qualifications
Comfortable communicating across management levels and functions in formal and informal settings
Strong organizational skills, tracking and leading multiple concurrent priorities
Skill with scripting approaches including with Perl, Ruby, and SQL.
Experience with service oriented architecture and large scale distributed systems
Experience with employee development, performance management and delivering results.
Problem-solving skills and the abilities to analyze quantitatively, scope technical requirements and effectively prioritize program deliverables essential to team success
Presentation and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to build partnerships with senior leaders across a variety of groups throughout Amazon
