UW Medical CenterNorthwest has an outstanding opportunity for a Nurse Manager to join us in our new Center for Behavioral Health and Learning building.
This position will specifically manage our Long Term Civil Commitment Unit, which is located on the fourth and fifth floors of the facility.
WORK SCHEDULE:
40 hours per week Primarily Monday - Friday, but with 24/7 accountability for the delivery of care Primarily day shifts, with additional hours as needed The anticipated start date for this position is April 2024.
These units will open to patients in July 2024.
DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION Our Long Term Civil Commitment Unit is designed to support involuntary admits who require extended periods of care, including those requiring multi-month stays.
Our services will include highly structured psychiatric care, services for patients with dementia and schizophrenia, and programs that promote independent functioning and transition to the community.
The unit will have 64 beds available for intake and will play a key role providing person-centered care in a positive clinical environment.

ABOUT THE CENTER FOR BEHAVIORAL HEALTH AND LEARNING The new Center for Behavioral Health and Learning , opening on the UW Medical Center Northwest campus in 2024, offers an unparalleled opportunity to transform mental health care and to improve mental health care training in our state.
Located in NW Seattle, the new facility will feature 75 longer-term adult psychiatry beds, 25 geriatric psychiatry beds, 50 medical/surgical beds focused on patients with psychiatric comorbidities, and a state-of-the-art neuromodulation program.
It will also house an interdisciplinary training and workforce development program focused on preparing and supporting the next generation of behavioral health providers for Washington State.
The six-story building will be a beautiful place to work with lots of windows, natural lighting and open-concept spaces and will offer amenities including a new kitchen and dining area for patients, staff and visitors.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Manages all day-to-day and operational functions of our inpatient Long Term Civil Commitment Unit Oversees a team of 30
Registered Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants Collaborates directly with the Behavioral Health Assistant Administrator regarding access, referrals, volume development, department flow, and productivity Ensures evidence-based practice is integrated into department operations Ensures adherence to Compliance Program policies, procedures, and standards of conduct Ensures that documentation meets current standards and policies and is completed for each visit by clinical staff Ensures that the unit meets regulatory standards (e.
g.
JCAHO, DOH), including environment of care standards and infection control Assumes the role of patient advocate regarding guidelines found in the Patient Bill of Rights Monitors customer service initiatives to better meet needs of patients Interviews and hires new staff Completes regular performance evaluations for each staff member Counsels employees, develops staff, and utilizes the disciplinary process when appropriate Provides leadership and direction in accordance with organizational goals and objectives REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Washington Bachelors Degree in Nursing, or actively working towards a Bachelors Degree in Nursing At least years of 4 supervisory nursing experience, including 1 year at the nurse management level Direct nursing experience and clinical leadership experience in a behavioral health setting Knowledge of The Joint Commission, DOH and other regulatory agency standards ABOUT UW MEDICINE WHERE YOUR IMPACT GOES FURTHER UW Medicine is Washingtons only health system that includes a top-rated medical school and an internationally recognized research center.
