Tie Down Clerk

Seattle, WA Seattle, WA $214 a day $214 a day Tie down clerks work consists of helping load and unload containers and trailers from railroad flatcars, securing and unfastening rail containers and trailers, assisting ramp contractor, spotting of inbound trains, hauling crews in ramp areas and operating cone buggy vehicles.
Advancement/Training:
After one year, tie down clerks who meet the typing requirements may bid for other available clerical positions (office work).
Accountabilities Read and comprehend regulations and instructions in English, as well as possess good oral communication skills Complete a functional capacity examination successfully Perform physically strenuous work on a continuous basis, and able to learn how to operate various hand tools Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Develop and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, contractors and/or customers and effectively handle conflict situations Qualifications Required Ability to speak English in a clear, concise manner to communicate with coworker(s) and supervisor(s) Able to help load and unload containers and trailers from railroad flatcars, securing and unfastening rail containers and trailers, assisting ramp contractor, spotting of inbound trains and hauling crews in ramp area Candidates must qualify on a Physical Ability Test (PAT) prior to employment.
Click here for a description of the Physical Abilities Test Preferred Experience working outdoors in variable weather conditions Experience working various shifts, overtime, holidays, and weekends Physical Requirements Able to climb on and off of railroad cars, bend, walk, and lift objects weighing various amounts Work Conditions 18 years of age or older Agree to wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety boots, hard hats, and hearing protection where the company requires Willingness to work outside regardless of weather conditions Must be available to work various shifts, overtime, holidays and weekends; Union Pacific operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week Able to provide your own transportation Authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship Must be willing and able to work around large equipment such as railcars, locomotives and cranes Apply only to those locations where you are prepared to live and work Willingness to practice safe work habits To the extent required by federal law and/or collective bargaining agreement, membership to the respective labor union is required.
The union agreement dictates the pay rate and cannot be individually negotiated.
Monthly dues are the responsibility of the employee.
