UW Educational Outreach (UWEO), the continuing education branch of the University of Washington, has been building bridges between the UW and communities across the globe since 1912. UWEO provides broad access to and expands the high-quality educational programs of UW by serving the needs of diverse, global communities of learners through innovative, self-sustaining programs. Known for providing its excellent UW Professional & Continuing Education certificate programs and fee-based degree programs, UWEO also provides other gateways to the University including UW in the High School, UW International & English Language Programs, The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the UW, UW Summer Quarter, multiple on-line learning offerings, conference services and more.
UWEO has an outstanding opportunity for a Director of International Specialized Programs within their Intensive English Language Programs (IELP).
The Director of International Specialized Programs (ISP) oversees a unit within IELP that develops and implements self-sustaining customized programs and courses of university level credit and non-credit English Language and academic content areas for student and/or professional groups.
Responsibilities:
Program Administration and Development
o Contributes to the overall strategic direction of IELP as member of the IELP leadership team.
o Represents ISP with UW departments, schools, and colleges.
o Collaborates with UW campus partners and others to identify new educational markets and extend IELP and UW resources to international clients.
o Represents ISP and IELP at conferences and with international organizations to promote new and maintain existing relationships, capture new markets, and increase visibility of IELP in the international educational arena at home and abroad.
o Serves as official point of contact for specialized program development requests; sets priorities and criteria for new program development.
o Reviews and guides program curriculum design at unit-wide level.
o Fosters and develops relationships with new and existing clients.
o Maintains small portfolio of programs.
o Attends ISP receptions and ceremonies as appropriate/requested.
o Entertains international clients in Seattle.
Supervision and Management
o Provides vision and leadership to unit, setting strategic priorities and goals for ISP within the larger framework of IELP.
o Articulates IELP goals and objectives to ISP unit.
o Supervises ISP staff with an eye toward professional development, continuous improvement and job satisfaction.
o Delegates the development of new specialized programs as appropriate.
o Conducts classroom instructor observations and participate in the performance review process and merit ranking of extension lecturers.
o Meets with students to address escalated issues in ISP, including dismissal if appropriate.
Financial
o Oversees program and unit-wide budgets and approves expenditures for all specialized program operations.
o Creates annual and projected budgets for the ISP unit.
This position requires occasional local and international travel.
REQUIREMENTS:
MA in TESOL or a related field and 4 years of successful experience to include:
o Successful development and management of ESL programs in a higher education setting.
o Leadership experience in a higher education setting.
o Supervision of staff and/or instructors.
o Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
DESIRED:
o Experience in developing self-sustaining and/or customized programs in a higher education setting.
o Fluency in a second language.
o Experience teaching English language in the US and/or abroad.
o A record of fostering a collaborative environment with international students, staff, instructors, administrators and the community.
o Experience working in a self-sustaining environment.
o Experience living or working abroad.
o Experience creating and managing budgets.
o High attention to detail.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
